1 Corinthians 13:7 KJV
“Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”
It amazes me how people claim to love someone, yet treat them like thieves and criminals. People have come to believe that when you suspect and distrust your partner (especially in the case of a fiancé and fiancée relationship), then you really love the person. Since when did suspicion, distrust, plus plenty of quarrels became a way to interpret love? That tells you how upside-down our world has become.
Love is not that passion that makes you do weird things; such that you become so obsessed with a person to the point of even harming them, only to explain that it is all about how much you love them. Nonsense! Rather, love is about giving people the benefit of doubt.
If I claim to love someone, I should not distrust them, I should not be suspecting their every move, nor want to harm them when they appear to have done wrong. People have died as a result to this you know? Such crimes are called "crimes of passion" by detectives, and it is simply crazy.
All the qualities described in our text today are the qualities that describe love Himself. Love is God, and God is love. God is known for rich mercies, patience and willingness to give His bride (the church) many several chances and new beginnings. Love will give the benefit of doubt, love is so trusting that it would hardly believe a wrong report of someone.
Love does not jump into conclusions. People have destroyed their marriages because of a simple report; some of which hold no water at all. If you want to love, then love for real; love like God. Understand that if you have not experienced the love of God, you will never know how to love. You need to receive the love of God in your life and then transmit same to your spouse or would-be spouse.
Receive the grace to give the benefit of doubt today. It is a major essential of love.
