The
return of the All Progressives Congress chieftain, Obong Sunny Elijah and
thousands of the party members in Nsit Atai, to the Peoples Democratic Party,
has been described as a turning point in the political fortune of the area.
The
State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, who led members of the State Executive
Committee of the party, to receive the defectors, commended them, for taking
such a bold step to come back to the big family which they originally belonged to, charging them
to henceforth remain steadfast in the fold.
The State PDP chairman used the opportunity to commend
the leaders in Nsit Atai for having tirelessly worked to attract devidends of
democracy to the good people of the area, adding that, the Leader of the Party,
Governor Udom Emmanuel sends his warmest regards for their support and
contribution to the success recorded by the State Government in the area.
In his response on behalf of the defectors, Prince
Sunny Elijah thanked the leadership of the party for the honour done him as he
and other former members of the All Progressive Congress return to the party,
which he said is his root.
Prince Elijah used the medium to applaud the Governor
, Mr Udom Emmanuel for the giant strides he has recorded so far across the
state, especially the various completed and ongoing projects in the local
Government, which he said was the reason why he took the decision to return to
the big umbrella family in order to support and contribute his quota to the
development of the area.
Also speaking, former member representing Nsit Atai
State Constituency, in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon Mrs Sarah
Elijah, who also defected stated that, with the defection of Prince Elijah, the
APC is non existent in Nsit Atai as her backbone has been broken.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on
Political Affairs and Water Resources, Rt Hon. Barrister Ekong Sampson,
described the APC as a collapsing building, which right thinking men flee from.
He charged those left in the collapsing APC structure to emulate Prince Sunny
Elijah and flee before it is too late.
