There
was an interesting story of a giant ship which engine failed. The ship's owners
tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure out how to fix
the engine. Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he
was a youngster. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived,
he immediately went to work.
He inspected the engine very carefully, top to
bottom. He then walked around the ship like someone carrying out some sort of
ritual. Everyone was watching. The experts who were initially called upon were
sure the company has wasted its time bringing this old man.
However,
the ship's owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his
bag and pulled out a small hammer. This was the point the ship owners begin to
lose hope. A small hammer for an engine this size? They had thought his bag
contained some formidable state of the arts tool that could detect the problem.
Anyway everyone watched him since they have exhausted all else.
He identified a
particular item and gently tapped it. Instantly, the engine lurched into life.
He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed! A week later, the
owners received a bill from the old man for ten million naira.
"What?!"
the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!"
So
they wrote the old man a note saying, "Please send us an itemized
bill."
The
man sent a bill that read:
Tapping
with a hammer ................................................N1,000.00
Accurate Knowledge of what to tap ............................ N999, 999 .00
Social
Media was recently awashed with stories of a purported 9billion Nairra Akwa
Ibom Governor's lodge to be built in Lagos. Criticism was rife from all angles.
For the first time in my sojourn on social media I was overwhelmed. I'm sure
most friends of HE the governor must also have been overwhelmed with the
barrage of criticism. Efforts were made by aides to end the controversy but the
more they tried the more the controversy spread like wild fire.
Some responders
mocked the governor's business school certificate and nothing was spared. There
was a serious problem. The people have been misinformed and they believe it.
Who would tell them the truth? How would they believe anything to the contrary?
How can anyone dispute this? Even the ship of state was almost shaking with the
array of sustained ferocious criticism. They've finally gotten him.
Just
when opposition threw their hats in the air in wild jubilation that finally
they've gotten Gov Udom Emmanuel where it hurts, now the ship of state would
head towards the precipice- out of his grips. Yes, yes, yes.
But
without warning The governor stepped in holding a small hammer. He looked
around, took a step forward and tapped an item called budget - yes budget.
"Where is the budget for the Governor's Lodge in Lagos?" He asked. No
one has an answer. This simple question fixed the controversy, fixed the public
mood and broke APC propaganda machine to pieces.
Because there was no budget. So how would the lodge be built? So all these
while opposition has gone to town with stories of a purported governor's lodge
building in Lagos that wasn't even budgeted for. Some even promised to carry
out demonstrations in as far as London. No one cares to find out if the said
item was even budgeted for in the first place. You can see why he is the
governor at a time like this. He has the little hammer to fix things.
Effort
is important, but knowing where to make an effort in your life makes all the
difference. The same goes for a state or a nation. At every point in the
history of every state or nation there are people God ordained with the
"virtue to fix things" at that point in time.
This event should open
your eyes to the person of Gov Udom Emmanuel that he has the right insight and
what it takes to tap the right button at the right time to lead this state to
greater heights. I hope the 9billion controversy can finally go under the
hammer-------c--o---u---r---t!
