Reigners Bible Church Collapse: Planet Radio Fulfills its Corporate Social Responsibility - Donates N3.4m to Victims (Photos)

Succor came the way of victims of Reigners Bible Church building collapse at the weekend when the management of Planet Radio, donated N3.4 million cheque to them. Read and see more photos below....


Presenting the cheques on behalf of the Radio Station, the Chairman of the funds disbursement committee , Mr. Clifford Thomas, said the funds were to assist the victims settle their remaining medical bills and resume their normal businesses.

In his remarks before issuing out the cheques, Mr. Clifford who is the Chairman of Civil Liberty Organization, said the victims were divided in 4 groups; those who were mortally injured; those who were injured and are still receiving treatment; those who were injured and whose injuries have been healed to some degree, and those who are relatives to deceased victims.

He stressed that part of the money was realised after Mr. Tony Afia, the Chairman of Planet FM, launched an emergency appeal fund to support the victims shortly after the incident.

In his words, "this is a private sector initiative. It is the initiative of an individual who believed that the Akwa Ibom person is not a beggar.

"Government money is not in this thing, government is not interested in knowing what is happening and the church, Reigners Bible Church, we would ordinarily expected them to say, 'it happened in our facility, let us also give.

"Reigners Bible Church did not put ten naira in this thing. Rather, the pastor, Akan Weeks, sent people and said, 'go, they are paying compensation, go and collect money from Planet FM.

"Planet FM has chosen to amplify the aspect of social development, mobilising the people and to give back to the society. This to me is the best corporate social responsibility".

Speaking with newsmen shortly after receiving their cheques, some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to God and the Chairman of Planet Radio, Mr. Tony Afia for the love extended to them in the period of their pains.

One the victims, Mr. Edidiong Gideon Etim who is still receiving treatment due to injuries on his head, chest and legs said the gesture by Planet FM and other members of the society will go a long way in helping him settle his medical bills.

It could be recalled that Reigners Bible Church which was under construction, collapsed on December 10, 2016 during the bishopric ordination of its founder, Apostle Akan Weeks killing about 29 worshippers while others suffered various degrees of injuries.
