In line with Governor Udom Emmanuel's bid to restructuring the
educational system in Akwa Ibom State, The Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor on Technical Matters and Due Process, Elder Ufot Ebong, has charged
school children in the State to shun truancy and examination malpractices,
describing such as acts, capable of damaging their future.
Elder Ebong stated this on Monday, when he paid an unscheduled
visit to Offot Jubilee Primary School, Uyo.
Speaking during the visit, the Governor's Aide, represented by
His Media Assistant, Comrade Ekemini James, described the pupils as "the
hope of the Nation", adding, the Akwa Ibom State Government, under
Governor Udom Emmanuel, has invested heavily in teachers’ welfare and made
necessary provisions for school children to learn under the right ambiance with
the appropriate tools and teaching aids, hence there should be no need for
anyone to engage in malpractices.
He said examination malpractice and other social vices do not
only dent the image of students, their schools and their parents, but hamper
the efforts of government in the education sector.
"I'm here today, to tell that you all, are the hope of our
Nation, so as young children, you should avoid anything that may damage your
future, like lateness to school, absence from school and examination
malpractice. All these things are hindrances to a successful future.
"The current administration in our State, led by our
Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has done so much in the educational sector, he has
renovated dilapidated schools blocks and even built new ones, all in a bid to
ensure you learn in a conducive environment", he said.
He cautioned teachers against aiding examination malpractices
among the pupils, saying, it does no good to the society, rather, it has a long
time stain on the perpetrators and the society if not tackled immediately.
While warning the pupils against truancy, Ebong also urged the
teachers to avoid laxity and urged them to be dedicated to their
responsibilities, to ensure a brighter future for the school children and for
the development of the State.
Continuing, the Governor's Aide appealed to the teachers and
parents, to play their roles in complementing the efforts of government in its
determination to eradicate all forms of examination malpractices, stressing
that parents should desist from making house chores a priority over academic
activities of their wards.
"To you, the teachers, the future of these young ones is in
your hands, God will use you to give them a brighter future. So I'm appealing
to you, to do your job well, be dedicated to your responsibilities as teachers,
don't do anything to support examination malpractice.
"Let me also plead with our parents not to place house
chores before the education of their children, government is trying their best,
and we must support them, he added.
He however commended the school authorities for what he
described as the high level of discipline, good sanitary condition
and rapid physical development being witnessed in the school.
Speaking on behalf of the pupils, a visibility elated Miss
Inemesit Effiong thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for the free and compulsory
education in the State, saying it has lessen financial burden on their parents
and sponsors.
She also commended Elder Ufot Ebong for identifying with them
and for his gesture during the visit, promising they will make use of the educational
materials donated to them.
Some of the teachers who spoke with newsmen, also thanked
Governor Emmanuel, over what they described as regular and prompt payment of
workers' salaries and further appealed for facility upgrade in the school.
During the visit, Miss Inemesit Effiong who successfully recited
the Dakkada Creed, won herself a new sport wear, while Ebube David will have a
new school uniform, courtesy of the Governor's Senior Special Assistant.
