The
political crisis in Etim Ekpo degenerated to a new low today after Barr.
Emmanuel Enoidem staged another assault at Iwukem (Readhere). It is gathered that Barr.
Emmanuel Enoidem, a former commissioner personally led the assault as a
follow-up to the attack which took place yesterday at Etim Ekpo Township
Stadium under the guise of a campaigning in Iwukem, the hometown of Rt. Hon.
Emmanuel Ekon, member Representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency.
It is
reported that Enoidem entered Iwukem to intimidate people with some disgruntled
youths and hired thugs in concert with paid police officers but the tide
changed when youths from the area rebuffed Enoidem's lack of leadership which
they claimed has reduced him (Enoidem) to a political liability who is not only
desperate to perpetuate falsehood to accomplish his sinister mission but has
resorted to sponsoring violence and propaganda against Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon.
The youths wondered why such infighting should be sponsored by Barr. Emmanuel
Enoidem when he is supposed to serve as a bridge builder in PDP.
Angered by
the position of the youths, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem ordered his boys to go on
rampage, destroying valuable items while the police officers who came with him
started shooting at random with live bullets which led to one sustaining gun
injuries. He is presently hospitalized at the University of Uyo Teaching
Hospital.
Recall
earlier that it was reported that Enoidem unleashed Terror at Etim Ekpo Rally
by sponsoring thugs to attack Emmanuel Ekon. The PDP chairmanship and
councillorship elections flag-off in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area took a
different turn as supporters of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon narrowly escaped a mob
attack at Etim Ekpo Township Stadium, Utu Etim Ekpo, after suspected thugs
launched attacks on them, pelting some people with stones, sticks and other
dangerous weapons.
Witnesses
said trouble started when one Godson Uwah, Special Adviser on Electoral Matters
to Governor Udom Emmanuel and a known crony of Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem
personally ordered thugs to collect and destroy flex banners and other campaign
insignias from the youths who accompanied Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon to the venue.
Available
sources said the attack was well orchestrated by Godson Uwah on the orders of
Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem as a result of the rising profile of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel
Ekon and for daring to challenge the impunity that has trailed the security
crisis in some parts of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. It took the swift
reaction of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon to restore calm and order he ordered his
teeming supporters to remain peaceful and not take laws into their hands.
