Genesis 17:5-6 KJV
“Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.”

There is a
difference between being fruitful and being exceedingly fruitful. To be
fruitful is to be productive in a normal way, but to be exceedingly
fruitful is to be doubly fruitful. It is to produce beyond what is
expected of you. In a sense, it is to produce in a double fashion; the
kind of thing that happened to Isaac and Rebekah, as they became the
first to bear twin children.
Your business can be exceedingly fruitful, your academics and career can be extremely fruitful. This means you could ask for one and get two. You may expect a contract in the millions and get it in the billions instead. After all, the word says God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that you can ask or think. But there is a secret to this level of fruitfulness, and it is found in our text. God changed Abram's name to Abraham, and he became exceedingly fruitful.
'Abram' couldn't have been fruitful talk less of being exceedingly fruitful. The name 'Abram' represented a nature of pride, rudeness and selfishness. Those kinds of characteristics work against fruitfulness. 'Abram' represents your old nature of sin, it represents a life of compromise, it also represents a life of hostility and insensitivity to others. That was who Abraham was.
So, God had to change his name so he could be exceedingly fruitful. 'Abram' is a carnal nature that can never submit to God; it is our un-regenerated self. Abraham means "father of many nations"; it is making the Father of nations himself to become your Lord and saviour.
Receive grace to be exceedingly fruitful in Jesus Name.
