In what pundits described as a calculated plan to completely extirpate the role of Local governments in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Udom Emmanuel has confirmed that there will be no local government election in Akwa Ibom State, the state which enjoys the highest allocation in the derivation arrangement of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Governor who made this confirmation in a media chat with selected journalist in the state at the government banquet hall, Wellington Bassey way, Uyo, said he considers the conduct of election in the thirty one local governments in Akwa Ibom State as a complete waste of money since according to him, the venture will not be profitable to his government in any way.
The profiteer Governor further argued that when viewed from the spectacle that the 'Unprofitable venture' will require the state government to print ballot papers and make available other electoral materials to all the units in the state, he has decided to continue with the transition committees in the state.
The Deacon Governor predicted that since if election was to be conducted in the thirty one local governments in the state, those who are currently transition Chairmen will be selected, there was absolutely no need to carry out the exercise.
It could be recalled that during the recent Esara unfortunate visit to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly she argued that her local government has been continuously sapped of their monthly allocation by the state government adding that she rarely receive monthly allocation from the state therefore, could not hold Finance and General Purpose Committee(FGPC) meeting.
Also, recent survey shows that local government headquarters in the state are taken over by grasses, cripping animals and birds, and that some Council are currently deserted by transition Chairmen who prefer to run their Councils from their various homes in Uyo due to lack of funds.
