"SOS: URUE-OFFONG/ORUKO IN RED ALERT OVER POSSIBLE LOSS OF COUNCIL'S PROPERTIES
Rumours are rife that the Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Council Transition Committee Chairman has taken away some of the council's properties in her security village quarters behind the council's secretariat in Urue-Offong Village..
A source who pleaded anonymity hinted that a Dyna Truck was used in conveying the items away from the place.. It further stated that one Ita Tom was assigned to carryout the job..
In a telephone conversation with the Transition Committee Chairman, she denied ever taking any council property in her custody..
According to the chairman, the Dyna in question may have been the one used in conveying executive couching from the Council Chairman's lodge to Methodist Central School, Oyubia for the just concluded 27th May Children's Day Celebration.. The chairman claimed the said items were returned to the lodge immediately after the event..
Speaking further on the matter, the chairman said she had intended to pack her personal belongings she brought into the security village apartment but was yet to access the person with the key to the apartment.. She said she would be happy if anybody could come forward to prove that she ever carried any council property to her house..
Another angle to the story is that the council intended to auction some of its properties in compliance with the law which permits the auctioning of the council's auctionable properties that are up to 3years.. It is however yet to be ascertained if the alleged Dyna items and the council's bus which is equally alleged to have been out of sight for sometime now, were part of the cancelled auctioning..
As the transition committee seemingly draws to a close, the people of Urue-Offong/Oruko would necessarily need to compare its handing over notes with what it took over from the immediate past council, to ascertain the true position of things..
Considering the pathetic financial condition of local government councils in recent times particularly in AKS, it is expected that our council managers should jealously guard councils' properties against any loss or unnecessary auctioning.."
