The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has held its public hearing on a
Bill for a Law to Provide for the Classification, Registration and
Licensing of Hotels and Tourism Establishments in Akwa Ibom State and
other Matters Connected Therewith.
The Sponsor of the Bill and Honourable Member Representing Mbo State Constituency, Hon. Samuel Ufuo
expressed his happiness to the stakeholders in the Hotel and Tourism
Sector, the general public for coming out to examine and contribute
to the Bill.
He commended the House Committee on Commerce and Industry
under the Chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Sir Gabriel Toby for organising a
successful public hearing to enhance the smooth and immediate passage of
the Bill into Law.
"The Bill when passed into Law will empower the
State Tourism Board to list, register and issue license to hotel
operators, and renew licenses for hotels that satisfy required
standard", Ufuo stated.
Under the regime of the Bill, the State Tourism Board shall have the power "to renew, revoke, suspend, cancel or transfer a license" it granted.
The Aristotle of the House and Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Samuel Ufuo maintained that the purpose of the Bill is to ensure standard, security and safety of members of the public who patronize such recreational facilities.
The House is expected to pass the Bill into Law during their next plenary session.
