Deuteronomy 8:18 KJV
“But thou
shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to
get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy
fathers, as it is this day.”
Becoming rich is not a bad thing. Wealth should be a kingdom privilege for God's people, simply because our father is not poor neither does He lack anything. As such, it follows naturally that we as God's image and likeness ought to be rich also.
But we all know that a large percentage of God's people are either poor or not rich at all. This trend is not likely to go away until motives have been properly addressed.
The question is, why do you want to be rich? If that question is not properly answered to the satisfaction of the Almighty God, then your prayers for riches will not be answered. God could just give you what is called "maintenance doze" only.
Our text reveals that God would give us power to have wealth for the purposes of His covenant that He swore to our fathers.
The first father we want to look at here is Abraham himself. God called him in Genesis 12:1-3, and promised to bless him and make him a blessing. That became the covenant, because every word of God is a covenant.
If your motive for wanting to be blessed with riches is to be a blessing, then you will be truly blessed and greatly so.
There must have been burdens in your heart you had always wished you could help out with all along.
God systematically shows you all manner of problems in society that makes you pray to be rich, all so you can solve problems.
If being a blessing is not your purpose and wealth enters your hand, then you will most likely destroy yourself.
That is why God will hold back, till the motive is right. Let me give you a few reasons to desire riches:
-To move the work and word of God to the ends of the earth; through TV, satellite, print publications, crusades, physical outreaches, conferences, rehabilitation of prostitutes, gang boys, etc.
-To assist the poor, widows, orphans and fatherless.
-Offer scholarships to the poor.
-Build churches for God across the globe, support those who want to volunteer to serve God fully.
-Purchase church equipment, both infrastructure and musical.
The list is endless.
Assignment/Prayer
-Study your church carefully and see the predominant needs there.
-Get into a covenant with God to supply these things when He blesses you.
-Put down theses needs on paper and make a written agreement between you and God, and one or two persons as witnesses.
-And then congratulations.
Nugget
If your motive for wanting to be blessed with riches is to be a blessing, then you will be truly blessed and greatly so.
