- EKONG SAMPSON
Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson has cautioned Akwa Ibom people to be guarded against selfish politicians who move from party to party primarily for their personal interest as against communal interest.
Such politicians, he described as fair-weather, unstable fortune seekers who have no commitment to their followers or the system that made them.
The Special Adviser gave the admonition while addressing a gathering of youth stakeholders at the Mkpat Enin Council Hall yesterday.
The meeting which was organized under the auspices of All Mkpat Enin Youth Stakeholders, in collaboration with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), drew representatives from the Youth Council, Youth Caucus, Forum of Village Youth Presidents and some women groups in the area.
Barrister Ekong Sampson said PDP is the only party in Akwa Ibom State that has the ideology, plans and political framework bring the needed help Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State and sustain the communities in Mkpat Enin LGA.
According to him, “such consciousness has informed his continuous support for the party, even when I could not get the party ticket to run for the House of Reps in 2015”.
He said most ardent supporters of the PDP do so in the interest of community, while some even after using the party as a platform to climb to prominence will seek to scatter it and jump to another camp for very self-centered discontentment. He cautioned the youths not to be easily swayed by such.
Expressing optimism that the PDP is a party that rewards loyalty, Ekong Sampson told the youths that the present day Mkpat Enin is more or less a PDP creation.
From the Akwa Ibom State University that just did its 2nd convocation, the coconut industry that is already employing so many youths even at the initial stage, the refinery underway, the electricity substation that will soon guarantee 24-hour power supply in Mkpat Enin, new roads, intervention in schools, appointments and so on, are all PDP blessings to Mkpat Enin as reward for supporting the party whole, he enumerated.
Barrister Sampson said “we are too used to the PDP to start wobbling now”. He also said Mkpat Enin will maintain the lead in championing the course of the PDP in Akwa Ibom, giving assurance that the party will produce the Chairman of Council, Vice, 14 Councilors and Supervisory Councilors in the soon coming LG elections, so instead of running around stay in the party and make an attempt.
Member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency, Hon. (Engr.) Otobong Ndem, seized the forum to announce the empowerment of 162 Mkpat Enin people that is set to take place on Monday, 22nd May, 2017. He said people will be trained in several skills and empowered to start businesses.
He enjoined those that may not benefit from the first phase to remain calm as more of such will follow. According to him, the important thing is that it is all about the PDP ideology and must be sustained.
In conclusion of all that was said, supported the position of the Special Adviser. He said “when any former this or that, who feels he should always be the only one, is offended because someone else has is given a chance and wants to lure to anywhere, tell them to allow to also take your own chance as they did, rather than follow their selfish ambitions about.”
