Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has attributed his inability
to conduct election in the local government areas of the state to the
present economic down turn.
Governor Emmanuel made this attribution during a media chart with journalists held at government house banquet hall, Uyo last weekend.
According to him, the financial resources of the state is very low and may not be enough to conduct free, fair and credible election across the 31 local government areas of the State.
He said when the country finally come out of recession, the election will be conducted accordingly.
The Governor mentioned that the present Transition Committees at the local government areas were carefully selected by the stakeholders of the individual local governments, which according to him, is equivalent to elected chairmen that the citizens are yearning for.
The Governor mentioned that he will not use the money meant for the payments of teachers and workers salaries for election, noting that the election will demand so much in terms of cash to enhance credibility.
He charged journalists and indeed the general public to continue supporting his administration to deliver his campaign promises for the good of the state.
Governor Emmanuel called on the people to give maximum corporation to the Transition Committees at the local government areas, as the are more or less the best that would have been elected during elections.
He pleaded for a better understanding and support from Akwa Ibomites explaining that local government election will be conducted when the country comes out of recession.
