Hon. (Deacon) Otobong Jonathan Akpan, Member Representing Ukanafun State Constituency in the State House of Assembly has said that his main focus in life as a person is to continue initiating programmes and policies that will have lasting but positive impacts on the lives of the people such that would leave lasting legacy to this generation and beyond.


The Ukanafun mouthpiece who said this in an interview with AKBC Reporters during his 40th birthday celebration, averred that, the main purpose in a man's life is to first and foremost discover the reason (s) for his creation, follow it up squarely and endeavour to please God, his creator in all his dealings.

Asked what was the focal point of his celebration, the state lawmaker said that he was celebrating God's continued faithfulness, abundant grace and sustenance through out his 1st to 40th birthday on the planet earth, noting that, God has been his all-in-all in life.

The MP, however, charged the youths to inculcate the habit of honouring God, respect human kind especially to the elderly, humble themselves, believe and build their personalities towards the 'man the want to become tomorrow'.

Expressing delight with the large turnout of dignitaries to the event, Deacon Akpan admitted he was honored at the cream of dignitaries (those invited and those not invited) that graced the occasion especially his colleagues at the AkwaIbom State House of Assembly, Constituents, clerics, friends, associates, admirers and a host of others.

Meanwhile, youth/political stakeholders of Ukanafun have expressed confidence with the lawmaker over his representation of the people at the state legislature and described it as not only impressive but recommendable too.

Speaking, Hon. Census Ekpu said he was impressed at the nature of bills and motions so far raised by the lawmaker on the floor of the House, citing such motions like: the rehabilitation, completion and commissioning of the abandoned Ukanafun Government General Hospital and Oil Palm Depot amongst others as such motions that caught his fancy.

The ex-Commissioner for Information in the state however urged the lawmaker not to rest on his oars as he still have a long way to go in politics and public administration.

Also speaking, Hon. Prince Nsikak Umoekpo, congratulated the Lawmaker for attaining the age of grace and identified with his representative strides at the state legislature.

The former Chairman Transition Committee and current Special Assistant to the state governor also urged the lawmaker to keep up his good work, noting that he's in full support of what the MP is doing.

Hon. Usoro Ukpanah on his turn said that he was impressed especially having a youthful representative at the state House, adding that, that had always been his vision and mission as a youthful Leader.

Hon. Ukpanah however expressed confidence in the representation of the lawmaker, urging him to do more and brace up to go even higher in political representation of the people.

Barr. Ndipmouwem Umoh who spoke on behalf of Ata Inwek UKANAFUN, a frontline umbrella for all sociopolitical groups in Ukanafun, said the lawmaker has done well and as such will continue to have the backings of Ukanafun youths.

The lawmaker was also urged to consider conducting a formal briefing of his constituents as such gesture has become part of the political culture of the state.

In his response, the lawmaker said that he would have done a formal briefing /empowerment of his constituents on the date of his 40th birthday but for some circumstances within his control, and promised to do so before the year runs out.

Hon. Uko Idiong, former council legislator, Hon. Shadrach Ekpo, current Supervisory Councillor in Ukanafun, Comr. Pascal, Adede Umoekpo a. k. a Simple, Comr. Ofonime Inwang, Comr. Utip Demas, Comr. Oku Udoetor, amongst others also spoke in glowing terms about the lawmaker.
