Participants of Senior Executive Course (SEC) 39, 2017 of the National
Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru today visited the Akwa
Ibom State Ministry of Science andTechnology.
The leader of the
delegation,Brig.Gen. Anlaini Daniel Chinoko stated that they were in the
State as part of their assignment and that of 5 other groups in other
parts of Nigeria under the Federal
Government directive to ascertain the role and performance of
Science,Technology and Innovation in Agriculture and Agro-allied
industries.
The group he said would tour Rwanda and China on a fact finding mission and at the end of the course would summit a report to the President.
He highlighted the recommendations of the institute since its inception and expressed his optimism that more of such would come out State visit.
The Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology,Dr. Nse Udo Essien in his response,welcomed the group to the Ministry.
In his presentation,he stated that the Akwa Ibom State Government recognised Science,Technology and Innovation as the landing pad for prosperity as exemplified in efficient and effective application of Science,Technology and Innovation tools in all facets of our economy especially in harvesting the State's abundant natural resources.
He outlined the Ministry of Science and Technology State policy in Agriculture and Agro-allied industries and went further to enumerate the bold steps the State Government has taken over the years to improve Agriculture.
The Ministry through its scientific officers deployed to the Ministry of Agriculture he said was active in the deployment of Science, Technology and Innovations in the Agric. development of the State.
The Ministry helmsman informed the group that the Ministry has a functional Agricultural workshop where fabrication of basic machines for the processing of agricultural products were undertaken.
He also seized the opportunity to intimate the group about the active participation of the Ministry at the just concluded STI exhibition in Abuja.
In conclusion, Dr. Essien made it known that the Ministry was in partnership with an Agricultural Consultant, International Executive Farmers Academy for the introduction of soilless Agricultural Cultivation without using only water all in a bid to make farming easier.
An interactive session ensued afterwards as members of the delegation took turns to ask questions and the Honourable Commissioner provided answers.
A vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Love Ezema, who also presented an appreciation plague to the Honourable Commissioner on behalf of the group.
