AKSG Moves To Ensure Improved Voters' Registration Exercise, Applauds Abak Transition Committee

The Akwa Ibom State Government has renewed its commitment towards ensuring that all eligible persons in the state participate in the Continuous Voters' and National Identity Card Registration Exercise.


Speaking during an assessment tour of the INEC registration centre at Abak, Thursday, the Special Adviser, Bureau of Political, Legislative and Water Resources, Rt Hon (Barr) Ekong Sampson said the Bureau was accessing the responsiveness of the community to the exercise.

He maintained that the Bureau is carrying out massive sensitization campaigns across the 31 Local Government Areas in the state and appealed to indigenes of the community to avail themselves of the opportunity.

The Special Adviser also lauded the achievements of the Barr Emmanuel Udosen led Transition Committee of the Council and expressed satisfaction at the turn out of people at the registration centre.

His words; "I want to commend the Transition Chairman of the Council in his vision in gathering investors to drive the polity in Abak as well as the peaceful nature of the local government area. Without peace, there can be no development.

"Let me challenge the members of this Committee to work together as a team. I am encouraged by the response of the Committee in mobilizing the people of Abak to participate in the exercise. I'm excited that this Council takes the centre stage in aligning with policies of Governor Udom Emmanuel."

Responding, the Chairman, Abak Transition Committee, Barr Emmanuel Udosen said the Council is working assiduously to ensure that all eligible persons in the local government area participate in the exercise and maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the only party that can salvage the country from the pitiable state it has been dragged into by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.

He stressed the fact that, Mr Moses Ekpo, the Deputy Governor hails from Abak, the area is ready to make sure Governor Udom Emmanuel succeeds himself in 2019.

Earlier, the INEC Electoral Officer in the local government, Mr Nwiwere Gbenegbara had said the Commission is impressed with the response of the indigenes since the commencement of the exercise.

According to him, those that register would be able to get their Cards within a three-month period. He assured the team that more machines will be made available in the next few months to create additional registration centres, especially in the remote parts of the local government.

The team also made a brief stopover at the Government Awareness Campaign for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District organized by the Directorate of Marketing and Brand Management at Etim Ekpo Council Hall, where the Special Adviser reechoed the resolve of the state government concerning the registration exercise at the converge.
