The Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke,
has charged members of a socio-political group in the state, 'Uyio
Mkparawa Uyo Senatorial district' to consider the re-election of
governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term in 2019 as a task that must be
accomplished.
He gave the charge, friday at the Assembly complex
when the leadership of the group paid him a courtesy visit.
Describing
their visit to the Assembly as part of the public engagement agenda of
his administration, Barr. Luke who promised to partner the group for the
benefit of Uyo Senatorial district, explained that it would be in the
overall interest of Uyo Senatorial district to support the governor who
hails from Eket Senatorial district to go for second term in office.
Commending the governor for the vigorous pursuit of his
industrialization agenda for the state, the Speaker noted that the
recent investment index released by the bureau of statistics, a federal
government agency which places Akwa Ibom second on the chart as the
second most viable state for investment, was a good testimonial to the
sincerity of purpose, and visionary leadership style of the governor.
The Leader of the legislature in the state therefore tasked the group
to work assiduously towards galvanising support across Uyo Senatorial
district for the governor's second term mandate in order for the
industrialization agenda of the state government to crystalize.
"Don't allow anybody to deceive you. The only way Uyo Senatorial
district would have their turn smoothly is for the Senatorial district
to support Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019 to go for a second term".
Earlier, the President, Mr. Samuel Akpan, said members of Uyio Mkparawa
Uyo Senatorial district were in the Assembly to show solidarity with
the leadership of the 6th assembly, and to renew support for the
Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration.
He said the group is
aimed at unifying the interest of youths in the Senatorial district with
a specific purpose of winning support for the PDP led government.
The group commended Barr. Luke for his effective representation in the
House of Assembly, noting with delight that the people of Nsit- Ubium
have benefitted immensely from Luke's representation.
He listed youth
empowerment, recent purchase of JAMB forms for Nsit Ubium, students,
construction of market stalls, among several other economic and life
enhancement packages which the Speaker has showered on his constituents
as some of the selling points that has endeared him to the group.
The Uyio Mkparawa Uyo Senatorial district assured the Speaker of their
unalloyed support and cooperation in his political endeavours, and used
the opportunity to announce him as their grand patron.
President of
the group presented some copies of branded exercise books to the
Speaker, saying it was the modest effort by members in support of the
free and compulsory education policy of government. The books are for
distribution to public schools in the Senatorial district.
Present during the courtesy call were, the Chief Whip, Hon. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Deputy House Leader, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Okon, and Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. David Lawrence Udofa.
