Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has declared his
administration commitment to end every form of child abuse and
intimidation in the State, to give the children their rightful place .
The Governor made his position known while delivering speech at the 2017 Children's Day celebration held at Uyo Township stadium last Saturday.
He said the State government is out to protect the rights of children so that they can achieve their highest potentials inline with the Dakkada philosophy.
Governor Emmanuel who doubled his speech with that of the Acting President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo reiterated that the government have adopted laws and programs that will put an end to violence against children and other cultural practices that hinders their developments.
He assured that government will continue to accelerate programs and investment through relevant Ministries, Department and Agencies to build protective services and empower families.
He however, called on parents, guardians and caregivers to as a matter of importance report all forms of abuse, intimidation on any child to appropriate authorities for necessary discipline to serve as a deterrent to other violators.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Glory Edet said that the day was set aside to sensitize the general public on the needs for collaborative efforts to build on the Nation's future through total and optimal care and the protection of children.
She extolled the Governor and wife, Martha, for their loves and care for Akwa Ibom children and vulnerable, assuring them of the children's continuous supports and loyalty beyond 2023.
Dr Edet charged the children to reciprocate the Governor's gesture by remaining law abiding and respectful to their parents, as well as abstaining from immoral activities.
