Following various articles written for and against Nsima and Udom, one can conclude with all sincerity that it's all about the governorship of Akwa Ibom State come 2019.
Very appalling is the fact that all these arguments is being laced with ignorance and skewed to suit our personal interest at the detriment of the state's interest.
It is very sad to see people draw conclusions on Nsima based on jobs executed by NDDC only in Akwa Ibom State. Deliberately, we have refuse to see that NDDC is an interventionist agency of the Federal Government which covers nine states.
Therefore, no amount of character assassination from only Akwa Ibom State would convince the Federal Government to sack Nsima. Neither will it discourage him from contesting in 2019.
This is because we know very little about what the agency is doing in other states, besides, he isn't the only one on the board.
Back to us in Akwa Ibom State especially the youths, we have been caught by the sycophancy bug. We have inadvertently and ignorantly divided the state along party lines, unknown to us, at our own peril.
Tomorrow, we will say the government did not do this and that but this is the time we should be calling the attention of government as well as NDDC to certain developmental projects that could improve the well-being of the people.
But, imagine where we are today. How did we get here? Let a citizen call the attention of government or NDDC to a deplorable road or classroom block and hell will be let loss, he or she will be labelled an opposition.
His or her name will become a subject of gossip. Most disheartening is the fact that top government functionaries enjoy such gossips rather than see it as an opportunity to impact on the lives of the people.
I have heard and it's still being said that, "youths are the leaders of tomorrow " and I wonder which youths. Am afraid, the youth that that phrase referred to was the Azikiwe's, the Awolowo's, the Enahoro's and the Mbu's of blessed memories.
If the kind of youths we have today were there during the colonial administration, we won't have had independent till now.
Then, there was collaboration and cooperation with sincere unity of purpose to achieve a collective goal and not selfish goal.
The youths as we have today are not in anyway assisting the government to develop our society and improve on the living standard of the people.
We have misused politics. There are lots of issues begging for government attention but we have been blinded by sycophancy.
All of us have migrated from our various villages to reside in Uyo, some of us have built houses, shops and all manner of structures.
Fantastic. But how many of us have given a thought to what Uyo will become in future with the many houses and shops sprouting everywhere.
Don't forget Uyo is a table land. Have we thought of calling the relevant authorities to the facts that houses are built indiscriminately without approvals.
Have we thought of the effects of the insensitivity of town planners; flooding and, it's very dangerous.
Have we also given a thought to the deplorable state of our primary and secondary schools classroom blocks, where our younger sisters and brothers attend classes?
Methinks, rather than divide the state along party lines, we should erase that line and call the attention of both the government and the NDDC to the deplorable state of these live touching project that have direct impact on the people.
