1 Kings 17:8-15 KJV
“And the word of
the Lord came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which
belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow
woman there to sustain thee. So he arose and went to Zarephath.
And when
he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there
gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray
thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going
to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a
morsel of bread in thine hand.
And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth,
I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil
in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in
and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
And Elijah
said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me
thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for
thee and for thy son.
For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel
of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the
day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did
according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did
eat many days.”
It is possible to never run dry in resources in
your life. It is also possible to enjoy steady and constant supplies
from heaven.
The truth is, the economy of this world has a pattern by
which it runs, such that there must always be some kind of famine,
recession or even depression.
You will realize that Abraham experienced
famine in his time, Isaac had his own share as well, then there was
famine in Jacob's time as well.
This makes famine a constant in the
world’s economic system. But there is what to do to sustain supplies in
famine and dry times. Note the following:
i. Make sure you know what
God wants you to do per time. Be led by the Holy Spirit in every area
of your life particularly in your economic life. God knows where
resources are each time. God asked Elijah to move to Cherith, and still
led him to Zarephath again. The same God led Elijah to this widow, so
she wouldn't die with her son.
ii. Never trust any economy or any
location. Rather trust God. No economy of any country is good enough;
only God is good enough. God can make you prosper in a dry place if you
obey Him. Thank God Elijah did not insist on staying at Cherith.
iii. Never eat your last or you will die. When you are down to your last
then know that it is a seed and should not be eaten. Seeds should be
planted, they belong to the ground. Look for where to send your last.
The widow sowed it into Elijah's life as was instructed by God through
His servant. She did this and her meal never ran dry. She survived till
the famine was over.
It seems to me that God ensured that the barrel of
meal kept staying full no matter how much they used it. If you will obey
God in liberality you will activate a supernatural form of supply that
no one will be able to explain.
You shall not run dry in Jesus Name.
