Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 NKJV
“Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days. Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not know what evil will be on the earth.”
“Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days. Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not know what evil will be on the earth.”
It was
quite an amazing discovery for me when God opened my eyes to the real
import of these verses of the scriptures.
I realized one day for the
first time that everyone who has food to eat has something to give out.
The text did not say cast your ‘abundance’ upon the waters, but your
‘bread’. This refers to your food; the one meant for immediate
consumption, due to its perishable nature.
Do not see yourself eating
alone, because whatever made a way for you to have those meals each day,
also expects you to have someone else in mind.
The truth is that
the bread you give out will one day come back to you too. Give a portion
to seven and to eight, and make it a habit because you do not know what
will happen in the world, your country and even your community in the
very near future.
This underscores the way to survive in times of
hardship. No matter how hard you pray you may not be able to prevent
some hardships from coming, but you can set up yourself to survive and
even thrive in times of famine or any kind of hardship.
You cannot
share your food and lack food. You cannot cater for the welfare of
others and be a welfare case yourself. You cannot show compassion to
people and lack supplies when it matters most.
I speak both from
experiential knowledge and from the testimonies of others I have both
seen and heard of.
This thing is so real. If you have food to eat then
you have something to give.
If you take out the value of a portion of
your meal you will do well. I faced some very harsh persecution in my
secondary school.
I got saved and became a radical for Jesus, and was
suspended for preaching the gospel around the school.
To worsen my
situation, I was recalled to school but as a day student and not a
boarder any more.
My father would come to my little room I rented in
town to give me money for my feeding, and with joy I would receive this
meager sum, sit down with it, and separate my tithes, offerings as well
as other kingdom commitments.
Then, I would take the balance to a
restaurant to pay for meals for twice a day.
I had to forgo one meal in
order to give my tithes as well as other things I wanted to do for God. I
have remained that way to this day.
Receive grace to give, no matter the cost in Jesus Name.
Assignment
-Think and come up with a very creative way to give and to be a blessing.
Prayer
-Lord please give me a heart to give and to be a blessing in Jesus Name.
-I receive a generous spirit in Jesus Name.
Nugget
You cannot cater for the welfare of others and be a welfare case yoursel
