As Christians the world over mark the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Governor Udom Emmanuel has charged Akwa Ibom people to use the season of love and sacrifice, to unite and show love to one another.
In a radio/television message to his people on Easter Sunday, the governor said it was time for them to reach out and preach peace to people who out of animosity and hatred, were blinded by anger, “and had failed to see God’s on-going wonderful works in our land.”
Emmanuel who raised an olive branch, urged such people to refrain from destroying the bricks of development, but to support him in the task of building a greater Akwa Ibom.
He explained that in line with the Divine charge by Jesus Christ before his ascension to Heaven, his “programmes have been tailored towards feeding the good people of our State with the dividends of democracy. “
Noting that no man has had a greater effect on mankind than Jesus
Christ, the governor enjoined Akwa Ibomites to be inspired by Christ’s
teachings and life which have “set the parameters for ethics and
morality."
“Let our chords of brotherhood never be broken and let us never forget that the peace of this State, the development of this State, the progress of this State lie in the unity and love we show to one another.”
He described the season of Easter as the foundation of Christians’ faith as well as a celebration of love, sacrifice, hope and spiritual renewal.
“Let the lesson be to all people, that though the world may have laid us in a servile tomb, but through God’s faithfulness we, as a people, have come out of that tomb of servitude and have risen to claim the faith of our greatness,” he charged.
Mr Emmanuel while recounting the words of the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, who during his recent visit to the state, had expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded in the state despite dwindling resources, and had declared that Akwa Ibom is the future of Nigeria.
“Together, we can work and claim the fruits of that assured and glorious future,” he added.
