This could yet be another landmark political victory for U.S President
Donald Trump as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has revealed that the
Chinese president has agreed that action must be taken on North Korea,
after his meeting with Trump in Florida over the weekend.
North Korea have tested nuclear weapons the last couple of months and even boasted being able to hit the U.S mainland soon.
Donald Trump before Chinese president Xi Jinping's visit, talked tough
about his meeting with the Asian leader in order to reach an agreement
that'll favor American trade and reach a compromise on the North Korean
situation.
Rex Tillerson has now revealed that China has agreed that action is
necessary on North Korea and now U.S Navy strike groups are now
sailing towards the western Pacific Ocean, to provide a presence near
the Korean peninsula-and attack North Korea if necessary.
Donald Trump early this year said as long as he is president North Korea
will never deploy a nuclear missile towards the United States and it
seems he is making headway with that promise, as a co-operative China
(responsible for 80% of North Korea's trade income) will only make it
easier to deal with North Korea and it's dictator Kim Jong Un.
Tillerson told CBS’s Face the Nation
“They had extensive discussions around the dangerous situation in North Korea”.“President Xi clearly understands, and I think agrees, that the situation has intensified and has reached a certain level of threat that action has to be taken,”
''There is a shared view and no disagreement as to how dangerous the situation has become”.
In view of the regional threat now posed by North Korean missile tests
and nuclear ambitions, he said, the Chinese “do not believe the
conditions are right today to engage in discussions with the government
in Pyongyang”.
“We’re hopeful, that we can work together with the Chinese to change the conditions in the minds of the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] leadership. And then, at that point, perhaps discussions may be useful.
“But I think there’s a shared view and no disagreement as to how dangerous the situation has become. And I think even China is beginning to recognise that this presents a threat to even to China’s interests as well.”
The United States' Carl Vinson strike group, which includes an aircraft
carrier, has been redirected from Singapore to the western Pacific near
the Korean peninsula.
US Pacific Command ordered the Carl Vinson strike group north as a
prudent measure to maintain readiness and presence in the western
Pacific,” said Commander Dave Benham, spokesman at US Pacific Command.
“The No 1 threat in the region continues to be North Korea, due to its reckless, irresponsible and destabilising programme of missile tests and pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability,”
