A drivel news item on the above subject matter has been flying around the media space without the ability to land or create the intended impact by its disingenuous crafters. Our great Party the Peoples Democratic Party could have ignored same having been dead on arrival, but in the spirit of friendship across divides, we will like to assist our freshman ‘publicity secretary’ of the APC in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Edet Eyo Bassey, who was quoted as advising the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel to emulate his Kaduna State counterpart -Mallam Nasir El-rufa'i by declaring the accounts and financial status of the state.
The said statement makes it manifest that either the gentleman or his Party ( or both) are not aware of happenings around the state, or are out rightly mischievous and antagonistic with the truth.
Recently, the state government published the audited accounts of the state, as mandated by the law, stating the particulars of the account in accordance with global best practices and known accounting standards. Till date, no query from any quarters (official or unofficial) has trailed the said published statement of account.
What would have been expected of an intelligent mind, would have been a commentary on the account or the production of verifiable facts to contradict the account, but none of such will emanate from the APC.
Ipso facto, may I now refer the All Progressive Party- Akwa Ibom State, particularly their ‘Publicity Secretary’ to the audited accounts of Akwa Ibom State published in the Nation newspaper of March 21, 2017, The Punch Newspaper of March 21, 2017 and The Pioneer of March 20, 2017 and appeal that they take time to study same and make comments therefrom. Government is undertaken within the confines of the law and nothing more pretentious.
Any person reading between the lines of that news material will discover the mischief buried therein- He wants Governor Emmanuel to join El-Rufa’i in criticizing the manifest economic doom that his party(APC) has enthroned in Nigeria?
As politically correct as that would seem, Governor Emmanuel is a thoroughbred professional and a dedicated leader who believes totally in the postulation of J.F.Kennedy that “our task is not to fix the blame for the past but to fix the course for the future”- Governor Emmanuel will continue to make positive contributions to the development of our country, irrespective of political differences.
However, for those(like Mr. Bassey) who are witnesses to the current misfortunes of our country, but for political affinity cannot speak out nor offer any helpful contribution, may we refer them to the memo of his role model El-rufa’i to the President and the unceasing analysis of Emir Sanusi on the state of the Nigerian economy.
Or should our Governor also emulate the security lapses that have defined Southern Kaduna, leading to the very reprehensible carnage that has become commonplace in that state?
Finally, it is common knowledge that for anyone to emerge as a Member of the State Working or Executive Committee of any Democratic political party, that person ought to have been elected at a congress by delegates to that congress.
The sudden emergence of Mr. Bassey on the political turf with the appellation ‘Publicity Secretary’ of the APC is farcical, as we are yet to know which congress produced him.
It may be needful for the APC to clear the air as it concerns their spokesperson, so that the public can take his statement more seriously.
We fear a situation where we reply to a person’s release only to be told later that he was an impostor, like a top shot of the APC did recently to his media aide.
If I join in the assumption that the gentleman is a lawyer, he ought to know better than just jumping into a matter midway, he ought to enter and announce his appearance properly, this is not only courteous but obligatory.

Akwa Ibom State
