A Federal Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State in the National
Population Commission, NPC, Chief (Engr) Ben Ukpong, has emerged the
leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oro Nation (Oron Federal
Constituency) comprising Oron, Mbo, Urue Offong Oruko, Okobo and Udung
Uko local government areas.
Engr Ukpong was chosen as the political leader by the stakeholders' and the entire members of the APC in Oro Nation, during a stakeholders' meeting of the party held at his country home, Mbokpu Eyoakan, Urue Offong Oruko local government area, at the weekend.
In their separate speeches, the stakeholders said the mandate was given to Ukpong as the leader of the party in the area because of his magnanimity towards the growth, advancement and stability of the party in Oro Nation, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
Describing Ukpong as exceptional leader, the stakeholders pledged the unflinching support of APC in Oro to the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration at the centre and the party as a whole, especially during the forthcoming general elections.
Engr Ben Ukpong, in his speech expressed happiness for the honour and love accorded him and pledged his readiness to make the party more vibrant in Oro, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
Ukpong, the APC deputy governorship candidate in the 2015 governorship election in the State, urged party members and the entire people of Oro and residents who are yet to register for their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to use the opportunity of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to do so, in order to be able to vote for APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
The stakeholders meeting featured defection of a teaming members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the area to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
In attendance for the stakeholders meeting were Engr Ben Ukpong and wife, member representing Urue Offong Oruko State Constituency under the platform of APC in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon.Asuquo Archibong, state officers, chapter officers and ward executives of the party as well as Hon. (Mrs) Alice Ekpenyong and Hon. Effefiong Antigha, former House of Assembly members.
Others were Dr Edet Attih, former Commissioner for Health, Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Alex Nyong, former council chairman, Chief Okon Osung, former chairman, local government service commission, Akwa Ibom State, Chief Edet Moses (On the rock), Dr (Barr) Asuquo Anwana, Chief Edet Ubokulo and Chief Asuquo Inuikim, among others.
