We need sanity
test for some lecturers in Nigeria Universities, particularly, lovers
of impunity, and University of Abuja is not an exclusion. Read more details below as shared.....
Something questionable must be fundamentally wrong with some Lecturers
in University of Abuja and as an Ex-boy of the institution we are
worried. That a Lecturer of PHD standing will still have his humanity
not well developed is shocking and embarrassing.
One Dr. Daniel Omatsola of Theatre art department was reported to have arrogantly threw out a 100level student iPhone last week from his class. He bartered and damaged the phone as punishment for suspecting that Student phone rang in the class during his lecture.
Our immediate investigation indicated that this Lecturer has elevated himself to a demi god of his lecturing profession that students must tremble at.
I am personally not in support of students indiscipline in our Universities, but that a Lecturer will damage a student's property on ground that she was late to class or suspected her phone rang in the class is logic turned upside down.
No individual in the University have the powers to deprive a student from a property the student have legally acquired, because rights to property is not a privilege in University of ABUJA or anywhere in Nigeria.
Such lecturers must be made to pay severe damages for such arrogance, as it is more now painful that it was later discovered that it was not the student's phone that rang in the class.
I wish to also encourage Students of tertiary Institution to always make formal complaints to ASUU whenever any Lecturer go mad. ASUU have ethics mechanism they use to discipline members that may likely bring the profession to disrepute by their activities.
Let me also appeal to the Lecturer concerned that he has 3days to remedy the situation. He is encouraged to settle with the student by using his salary to purchase another phone, without which we will assist him to secure the ridiculous promotions he is applying for.
