The office of the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on
Agriculture Monitoring headed by Mr.
Moses Armstrong is currently
training 150 graduates in Uyo senatorial district on vegetable crops
cultivation.
The programme is designed for beneficiaries to major
in tomato, onions, cabbage, carrot, Lettuce, and cucumber cultivation,

It was gathered that the programme will be duplicated in Ikot Ekpene and Eket senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State.
Mr Armstrong, who spoke recently on on the mode of selection of
beneficiaries said coordinator would pick two persons from each ward of
every local govt of the senatorial district.
Armstrong said, "They (beneficiaries) are interviewed, inducted and trained in the paramilitary way for maximum discipline.
"The training is done by an NGO (Non Governmental Organization) called "Food Defence Initiative.
"The demonstration farm for the training is located at the Federal
Cereal Research Institute at Nung Oku Ibesikpo, in Ibesikpo Asutan local
government area.
"We are cultivating two hectares of land there given to me by the federal institute.
"The DSS boss in Ibesikpo Asutan command is aware of our activities there and always come around yo see what we are doing.
"We have started nursing and about to transplant in two weeks. And we
intend to empower the trainees to own their own farms, while we employ
some in our own demonstration farms which we intend to expand by
heacters.
"We also intend to involve local government chairmen in the area of empowerment for their people after graduation".
Armstrong said the training is in line with the Dakadda philosophy of
Governor Udom Emmanuel to awaken the can do spirit of the Akwa Ibom
people. He further explained that the central focus of the programme
was to create a sustainable economy for Akwa Ibom youths through
agriculture while boosting food sufficiency in the state and also
creating market for export.
