People drink fresh palm wine, fresh juice but nobody drinks fresh blood
yet blood is the most nutritious substance on earth.
This is because
blood is not just the red fluid in our arteries and veins; it is not
just our lives but also our lines. But when the blood is in your own
mouth you cannot spit it away; you cannot swallow it.
Nse
Ekpenyong and Robinson Uwak are the blood Oro people have currently in
their mouth. What do they do? Spit them out? Swallow? God forbid!
An elder does not stay in the house and watch a she-goat in labor while
the goat is tethered on a stake. The elder must get up and untether the
she-goat even if he cannot midwife the labor. Oro elaha ela.
These two brothers have held each other’s jugular since after the election.
History:
Robinson and Nse contested 2015 elections to represent Oron Federal
Constituency in 2015. INEC declared Nse winner. Robinson challenged the
result in both Election Petition Tribunal and Appeal Court both of whom
declared Nse winner.
From what I read in social media, it appears
both are back in court for a purported Certificate Forgery claim
against Mr. Nse Ekpenyong. I also understand this is the second High
Court. At the first High Court Mr. Uwak had accused the Judge of bias
and the said judge washed his hands off the case.
That one was assigned
to another judge. While waiting for continuation of that one, EFCC was
brought in to institute another case on the same subject.
My Opinion
What use to concern me is not people’s right to take certain actions
but the national social picture it portrays.
A small nation is like a
book of blood, any part of the body that is opened, what comes out is
red. So when any of us acts, we should have this in mind.
I have always
wondered why a nation that lives by the rivers of water and which has
been in this land for several generations, a nation blessed with
abundance of protein would be struggling with population against Ibibios
and Annangs who had to use creativity to obtain protein.
A people who
had the means to nourish themselves and breed at a time birth control
was a taboo remain the least populous among the big 3 in the state.
Until we ponder about this we may not find time to ask ourselves some
pertinent questions about nature of our internal unity. As fire defeats
fire so has pity defeats pity.
Is hate now defeating love on this land?
God forbid! Who would save Oro from Oro except Oro?
“Etu ukwot utit mu toohtooh ubia nolungho lungho mgpak udi”
Let me commend the PG, Oro Union for his encouraging comment and
assurances that the issue is being treated at their level. But let me
plead for expedited action because when you mess and the air carries it
you may not know when the odor reaches your enemies’ house.
Our
elders, youths, Oro Union, COTR, Esu Nlap, Mkpefe, OUF elaha ela. Let
this blood in our mouth not be spat out; let us find a way to drink but
not swallow it. Two of them na our sons.
Esau was angry with his
brother Jacob for taking his birthright (not a keenly contested
election) but yet he let Jacob go with the price, not because he
couldn’t have changed it by killing Jacob (after all he had the
opportunity); but because of the blood line. I appeal to both sides to
sheath their swords and listen to Oro Union.
