In a bid to effectively boost tourism for increased revenue generation
geared towards the realization of a fair share of the global tourism
revenue, the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has
launched a brand identity logo competition with the theme, "Amazing Akwa
Ibom...the Preferred Destination"
The Honourable Commissioner,
Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Akwa Ibom State, Rt Hon. Victor Antai,
who revealed this during a press conference on Monday, said the
competition is an excellent opportunity to promote and strengthen Akwa
Ibom as a brand revealing the state potentials.
In his words,
"In recent times, Akwa Ibom State has become many things to many people,
the state has been repackaged to a show piece of delectable delivery by
opening its doors very wide, with open minds and open pleasures with
rebranded people making it a tourist paradise.
"Therefore in
order to boost tourism for increased revenue generation in this sector,
the state Government is undertaking several destination projects towards
this realization for a fair share of the global tourism revenue.
"To add this effectively, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism needs to
ground the state with a tourism brand identity, and for this singular
reason, she is reaching out to the public through the press today to
participate in the tourism identity logo competition with the theme
“Amazing Akwa Ibom..the Preferred destination.
"Furthermore, in
the bid to situate Akwa Ibom state in the tourism map, the Ministry is
carrying out projects that are in line with the state tourism endowment
which includes a round table conference of the state creative industry,
which will bring people together to put up structures and galvanize
ideas to further push Akwa Ibom State to a tourism haven.
"We
will also be having National Art Exhibitions where institutions,
associates and icons will exhibit visual arts and crafts, which will
include, sculpture, painting, textile, ceramics, installation,
photography, graphics, paint making, raffia, cane craft, wood craft
etc."
Mr Antai further stated that the objectives of the
competition was to get an identity to brand the state tourism industry,
aimed at supporting the marketing efforts of the state government.
The competition according to Rt Hon Victor Antai is open to all
Nigerians and Akwa Ibomites, but however said graphic artists are mainly
the most encouraged to participate in the competition for
professionalism.

According to him, out of the numerous entries expected, only three best
proposals of the logo will be shortlisted and presented with the cash
award of N250, 000, N150, 000 and N100, 000 respectively to the winner,
first and second runner up of the competition at a presentation ceremony
which will be held at Civil Service Auditorium, Idongesit Nkanga
Secretariat, Uyo on 7th April, 2017.
