Uyo Club 1935 have disowned one Edet Tom Udoh,
a member of the prestigious club over rants again the Akwa Ibom State
governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel credited to him by a feature writer
in a state based tabloid and suspended him indefinitely.
The suspension order was made known during a Press conference held by the Executive of the Uyo Club at their Wellington Bassey road club House.
Briefing newsmen on the development, the President of Uyo Club, Rt. Hon. Uwem Ekanem, disclosed that, the decision to suspend Mr Edet Udoh was taken after extensive deliberation and having been satisfied that he has breached section 5 of the constitution of the club, which forbids members from partisan activities within the precinct of the club.
Rt. Hon. Ekanem said, Uyo Club as a responsible body is embarrassed by the article published on Page 14 of Wednesday, May 24,2017 edition of Global Concord Newspaper titled, "Youth! Youth! Youth! Akwa Ibom State Governor must hear this", by Aniefiok Essay which portrayed Governor Udom Emmanuel, a Grand Patron of the Club in bad light.
While apologising to the governor for the said misdeed of Mr Edet Udoh also known as Eddy Pedro, the Club accordingly dissociated themselves from his views which the Club maintained is personal to him.
The press statement reads in part, "The Club wishes to state that the ideas and sentiments expressed in the publication are personal to Edet Tom Udoh (Eddy Pedro ) and do not reflect the thinking and, or policy of Uyo Club 1935. Ours is a Recreation Club, apolitical and secular in nature. "
Rt. Hon. Uwem Ekanem who is a one time Majority Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and currently a member of the Governing Board of Ibom Power Company said Uyo Club remains loyal and identifies with the policies and programmes of the Udom Emmanuel led administration, revealing that, the case of Mr Edet Tom who is currently suspended indefinitely has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for further action.
The Press Conference was attended by members of the Uyo Club 1935 executive including, the Secretary, Hon Macauly Udoh, Treasurer, Obong Nkaiso john Ekpo, Financial Secretary , Elder Ebong Abak, Mr Richard Udoh, who serves as The Bar Secretary , Mr Effion Utuk, and a former President of the Club, Akparawa Ikpong Essien Nsudo and the Public Relations Officer, Mr Akan Emah.
