A popular aspirant to the office of the Akwa Ibom state Governor at the
2019 general elections, Barr. Asuquo Okpo has expressed delight towards
the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom
state, over its recent decision to zone the governorship position to the
people of Eket Senatorial District describing it as a welcome
development which is an added advantage to the people of Eket Senatorial
District.
Speaking with the press at the Akwa Ibom Airport while arriving from Abuja Friday, Barr Okpo who opined that the gesture was good and would encourage equity and political inclusiveness, maintained that he was satisfied with the party's decision.
Barr Asuquo Okpo, a popular Oro son who was among the 2015 aspirants for the high office stated that it was time for the people of the state to wake up and fight for their right because if they resist imposition, nobody would impose anybody on them.
Okpo enthused that his administration will witness real governance in the state as he was going to run an open, all-inclusive and participatory administration.
His words, "Zoning is an added advantage to the people of Eket Senatorial District. It is good because it will encourage equity and political inclusiveness.
It is a welcome development. I am satisfied with the decision of my party. My administration will be the beginning of real governance in Akwa Ibom State. I will run an open, all-inclusive and participatory administration."
It could be recalled that Asuquo Okpo had, earlier in the week, addressed a media chat in his Shelta Afrique residence in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom State, declaring his fresh return to the contest.
Okpo who said he was going in for the battle based on the natural justice that must be observed, explained that Akwa Ibom State belonged to all and that it was just for an Oro man to slug it out to the hilltop mansion as the Ibibios and the Annangs have taken their turn to make appearances.
He maintained that Udom Emmanuel had signed a single-term pact with the Oro Nation during the 2015 electioneering subsisting that he was going to relinquish power to them in 2019.
Meanwhile, Barr. Asuquo Okpo who was, equally, a Guest at the Team Nigeria Interview Programme at the Planet FM, Uyo dropped the heat that Oro Nation was packaging a stronger outing to fly the governorship ticket in 2019.
He told the Akwa Ibom people and indeed Nigerians that the stiff resistance the Oro brothers offered against the forceful imposition of Udom Emmanuel on the state would be refined for total victory.
Asuquo Okpo who took time to extol the exemplary resilience of the people who were led by their renowned intellectual and political warriors including the renowned Prof. Okon Eminue, Chief Okon Osung and Chief Dr Effing Edunam, expressed confidence that the blocs were intact for a fresh fight.
