“And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these”.
THE FIRST MENTION OF LOVE

Genesis 22:2 KJV
“And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of”.
Welcome to the month of February in Jesus Name. May this month favour you and do you well in Jesus Name. We will be studying the subject of love towards God and men this month. I felt led to take on the subject of love by first mention, because the principle of first mention is a very powerful principle in the bible. Here are the following things we must note:
-The first mention of love had to do with Abraham, our father of faith: It was no one else other than Abraham. Abraham could not be a man of faith without being established in Love. No wonder faith works by love.
-God tested Abraham: One of the biggest tests you will ever have in your life with God will be the love test. God will not advance you in life beyond your capacity to love Him. In Abraham’s case, the way God proved his love, was by requesting that Abraham gave up what he loved (Isaac) as a sacrifice. Now Abraham loved his only Isaac so dearly, and it was not a hidden matter. Therefore, God decided to redirect the heart of Abraham back to Himself, just the way it was, before Isaac came.
Every now and then, God will test your love for Him, by asking you to make some serious sacrifices. That’s just His way of making sure that you don’t have any other thing before Him.
-Finally, the love test God gave to Abraham was a message of the greatest form of love that God was going to give to the world by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son; Jesus Christ. “Greater love has no man this, That a man’s lay down his life for his friends”. John 15:13.
That is the wisdom of the first mention of love.
Action Points
-Make a list of three things you really love and consider offering them as a sacrifice and a gift to God.
-Check for anything else in your life that may want to compete with your love for God and put them in their place.
Prayer
-Lord I declare that you are my first and best love in Jesus Name.
-I demote every other love in my life to come under you in Jesus Name.
-Lord may I never have anything that I cannot give back to you in Jesus Name.
-I love you Lord with all that I am, all that I have, and all I will ever have in Jesus Name.
Nugget
Often times, God will test your love for Him, by asking you to make some serious sacrifices; just to make sure you don’t have any other thing before Him.
