It has been said that procrastination is the thief of time. But the real truth is that procrastination is the thief of life, since life is measured in time. Procrastination is the putting off of important things to future dates, either due to laziness or because of sheer attitudinal problems. Your work for each day determines the result of the rest of the year. Someone once said “take care of the days and the year will take care of itself.
In overcoming procrastination, two words play a very prominent role, and they are the words “today” and “now”. If you must be free from procrastination then you must learn to do things now and today. Putting them off till the next hour or the next day could be disastrous for you in the nearest future. What you do not buy now could become costlier; an opportunity you do not utilize now could go away never to be recovered. Just learn to do it now.
In the line of my work, which is preaching and teaching; if you fail to jot down an inspiration you received from the Holy Spirit at the time it came, you may permanently lose it. I was once with one of my automobile mechanics as we drove past a broken-down vehicle. This car broke down in the middle of the road, with the tires pulling out completely. Then my mechanic commented by saying “what a shame! This car must have given it’s owners sufficient warnings before now, but they chose to ignore the warnings”. When I thought it through, I realized he was correct.
Deal with procrastination, work on your discipline and make great progress this year.
