Luke 1:39-45 KJV
“And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord”?
Today we want to talk about the role of midwives in the birth process. Even in the most primitive places, there are still midwives or birth attendants as they are called in most places. Their job is to assist you through the process of bringing that new life into this world. Their work begins from the end of the first trimester of your pregnancy, and they begin by coaching and training you on all that you need to know about a new life inside of you, as well as what you need to do.
Then on the day of delivery they will be on hand to assist you during the birth process. Since you will not be able to see the progression of the child as the head and other parts of the body comes out, they are the ones who will coach you, encourage you, wipe your body or your tears where necessary. They are usually very well trained and experienced to make sure you do not lose your baby in the process. And in the case of Mary, Elizabeth acted as that midwife who made her know for sure that she had a baby growing in her. She did so by calling Mary “the mother of my Lord”. Luke 1:39-45.
God has placed such people in your path to be of this kind of help to you. They are usually mentors, your Pastors, good materials such as books, CDs, or any other kind of material that will bring great knowledge and wisdom to your disposal. Mary spent three solid months with Elizabeth, and it was not accidental, it was rather deliberate. She took the time to ask all kinds of questions and clearing all doubts before leaving. Your pastor might just be that midwife you need. Never miss any moment or meeting where he or she is bringing God’s word. Stay connected at such times and you will receive all the coaching you need to make it through in Jesus Name.
