Lamentations 3:21-23 KJV
“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness”.
Have you ever decided to sing and then noticed that you could not remembered any song? It happens to me too. As a keyboardist, when I get the time to sit with a keyboard, all the songs will disappear from my mind. So it is, when it is time to give God thanks. You suddenly find it hard to remember anything for which to be thankful to God for. That is a trick of the enemy, just to make sure you do not remember anything worth thanking God for. Now, here are a few more reasons to be thankful to God:
-His is not a God of mercy as many would say. But He is a God of mercies. Our text says His mercies are new every morning. Meaning that yesterday’s mercy expired by 12midnight, and you are currently living on a brand new never-seen-before mercy.
-He has different kinds of mercies for different kinds of situations and endeavors. The mercy a Pastor enjoys is not the kind of mercy that an architect enjoys. The mercy of a lawyer is not the same with a mother and wife.
-He doesn’t consider our sinfulness and many mistakes when He wants to bless us. In fact, He sometimes blesses us for nothing.
-He has never asked us to pay for the air we breath; It has been so free of charge.
-He is faithful never to allow us slip into death when we fall asleep.
-Even in the hardest of times, He makes sure we find food to eat.
-Unknown to you, He has denied the enemy of attempts to end your life. I am sure He does this literally every day.
-He has consistently forgiven all our sins, including the ones we do deliberately.
-What about how He comforts us in our distresses?
My conclusion is this, we have more reasons to be thankful than to complain. We have not given God enough credit and thanks for all He has done for us. And we may never thank Him enough, because there are things He has done and is doing that we will never know. No wonder Paul said we should just thank Him in everything.
Receive grace to thank Him today in Jesus Name.
Action Point
i. Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of things to thank God about.
ii. Spend the rest of the year in thanksgiving and nothing else. Praise God, pray in the spirit and thank Him.
Prayer
-Lord I thank you for your many mercies.
-I know I will never be able to thank you enough. I owe you everything, including my very existence.
-Please teach me never to take you for granted,
-From the depths of my heart, I love you Lord.
Nugget
We have not given God enough credit and thanks for all He has done for us, because there are things He has done and is doing that we will never know.
