A technician, Ozoemena Cletus Osigwe, has appeared before an Igbosere Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing an unemployed man in the buttocks for refusing to buy him a drink.
The incident occurred at about 2pm on New Year’s Day in a bar at Marwa Ghetto, Lekki.
Osigwe, 37, of Marwa Ghetto, was arraigned by the Maroko Police Station, Victoria Island, before Chief Magistrate W. B. Balogun.
He is standing trial on a one-count charge of unlawful assault occasioning harm.
Prosecuting Inspector Ingobo Emby alleged that the complainant, Samuel Emmanuel, was drinking at a bar when Osigwe approached and taunted him that he was drunk.
Osigwe allegedly asked Emmanuel to buy him a beer, but the complainant refused. A fight broke out after they insulted themselves.
The complainant broke a bottle and threatened the defendant with it. Osigwe fled to his house nearby and allegedly returned with a kitchen knife with which he stabbed the complainant in the buttocks.
According to Emby, the offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Osigwe pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Balogun granted him N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.
