John 4:5-7 KJV
“Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, give me to drink”
Sometimes it takes a measure of trust for someone to open up to you and the gospel you carry. It would sometimes take a measure of respect from you for there to be any form of perpetration with the gospel into anyone’s life. There must be some form of acquaintance that should go ahead of preaching the word of God to a sinner. This was what Jesus did with the woman of Samaria.
You would have noticed upon reading the entire account of Jesus’ encounter with this woman, that there was a protracted discussion that preceded her receiving Jesus. She did not just receive Him, but she made the entire city of Samaria believe in Him too. Jesus first befriended her by establishing some kind of trust through the discussions they had. The question now is how to strike these kinds of discussions.
The first way I know is what Jesus did. He started with a question. Questions place a demand for answers and a need to answer; and often times, one answer will lead to another question, which brings more answers, and in no time some form of friendship will happen. But your aim all along should be to bring the gospel to the person like Jesus did. The woman tried to dismiss Jesus by saying that the messiah will tell all things when He came, and then Jesus dropped the bomb by saying, “I that speak unto you, I am He”, and that did it.
Receive grace for tactful friendships that will lead to winning souls in Jesus Name.
Assignment/Prayer
i. Ask God for the grace to witness to souls by friendships.
ii. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you with the right approach each time.
iii. Ask God for a mouth and a wisdom that cannot be gainsaid or ignored.
