SUFFERINGS OF 19TH CENTURY STILL IN EXISTENCE. I SALUTE THIS LADY FOR HER COURAGE BUT ASSIST HER OUT OF THIS PLEASE.
This woman, ARIT E. A., bought two locally made Beds (sofas) known in
Oro dialect as Akwang or Nkpana for credit and at N1400 each in her
village, Mbokpu Uko-Akai in Urue Offong/Oruko LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
She had to carry those sofas on her head and trekked from the said
village to Oron Beach Market, a distance more than 20km, to sell them
for N1500 each.
After she sold, she paid back N2800 to the Sofa manufacturer as she went home happily with her N200 profit for the day and the entire week.
What a tragedy!
She has been involved in this business for the past 3 years just to survive with her Children. I wonder how she manages this money for One week where she will go back for another business trip.
My heart sinks to know that people still suffer upto this extent only to get N200 in Nigeria even after our President and Governor spent so much to alleviate poverty from our area.
Well, since President and Governor seem to be far away from us, may I use this opportunity to call on well-wishers especially those from Urue Offong Oruko LGA, to please bail this poor woman out of this level of poverty.
