The commissioner for Works, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen has again pleaded with youths not to disrupt road projects in their localities or prevent contractors from making progress in the projects.
Commissioner Inyangeyen gave the charge when he led a team of Ministry staff and newsmen to inspect the ongoing construction
of the 19.317km Anua- Mbak - Ishiet road in Uruan Local Government Area, which traverses the sister council of Uyo.
The Works Commissioner, explained that, there is need for the youths to allow contractors take advantage of the dry season to make positive progress in the road construction before the heavy rains set in.
On the contentious issue of outstanding compensation, Commissioner Inyangeyen assured the youths that, although the money isn't available now to pay, all profiled persons will be paid before their homes are demolished to give right of way for the roads.
He said Governor Udom Emmanuel is committed to the urgent revamp of the road infrastructure and other complimentary social amenities in rural areas to link them up with urban centres, especially where the have economic value, like the Anua - of Mbak Isshiet road which leads to the popular sea food market, which he observed will open up the area for business.
Responding, The Youth President of Nung Oku Uruan, Comrade Paul Effiong, thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for finally embarking on the construction of the road which he said for over 5 decades, their forebears anticipated with great expectations but that was never met.
While pledging the cooperation of youths with the state government and the contractor handling the project, Comrade Effiong, also pledged that the people of the area will massively vote Governor Udom Emmanuel in for a second term come 2019 as reward in appreciation of the governor's integrity and keeping his campaign pledge of constructing the road and others in Uruan, which he noted is had been neglected before now.
