Malachi 4:1 KJV
“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud,
yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall
burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root
nor branch.”
I
have come to realize, that even though God hates sin generally, He specifically
and personally Hates pride above all else. Pride is the one sin God cannot
handle for too long. God has pardoned fornicators and even murderers in the
Bible, but abandoned proud people. He cut off from king Saul due to his pride
and made sure he never heard from Him for the rest of his life; (1Samuel 28:6).
That means God killed him before he died. He literally abandoned Saul
completely. That is the reason why apostle James said that God resists the
proud: it means that God opposes or fight against the proud.
In proverbs 6:16-17, the first thing God hates is pride and a proud look. One
truth you must understand is this, it was pride that gave birth to hell. Satan
who was lucifer became proud whilst he was still in heaven and wanted to take
over or overthrow God due to his pride. In Isaiah 14:14 he made boast about how
he wanted to be like the most high. It was the case of a created, wanting to
rub shoulders with the creator. So, God cast him down from heaven, found a
special way to punish him. Hence, God created hell fire to specifically deal
with pride and satan. That is why our text puts pride before wickedness and
wicked people, because it takes pride to be wicked. Which is why I said that
hell is for the proud.
It
takes a proud man to really go to hell because of the following reasons: Proud
people never see their wrongs, as such they find it hard to repent. Even though
Jesus had said in John 3:17 that He did not come to condemn the world, yet He
told us those that will be condemned in verse 19. "And this is the
condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather
than light, because their deeds were evil". People will literally see the
light and reject it. They will see their fault and refuse to be sorry, they
argue their way to hell without knowing. When you reject such work of grace
done by God Himself, how will you escape?
"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first
began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard
him". Hebrews 2:3 KJV.
Assignment
i. Fervently ask God to deliver you from pride, in all of its shades and
manifestations.
ii. Ask the Lord to clothe you with the garment of humility from today.
Prayer
-Lord please deliver me from pride today in Jesus Name.
-Lord I reject the spirit of pride in my life in Jesus Name.
Nugget
God created hell to punish pride. So, if you are proud, you are being resisted
by God because God hates pride and a proud look – repent!
