Luke 7:2-4 KJV
“And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready
to die. And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews,
beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. And when they came to
Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he
should do this.”
There
is a kind of wisdom known as ‘work place wisdom’. It is a wisdom that makes you
indispensable at work and on your job. It is the kind of wisdom that makes you
a permanent staff; the kind that is "unsackable" and
"unretrenchable". It is sometimes a shame when believers are affected
by retrenchments and downsizing. The wisdom needed to avoid this kind of
challenge is to become dear to your employers or boss by being a major
productivity generator in the organization.
You would have noticed that the centurion, who was the boss and employer in
this case, determined to go to any length to make sure his servant’s health was
restored, all because he was dear to him. Most employers would help you a
little, and hang around you for a week or two. If you fail to recover, they
could replace you. But this servant was so fruitful that he could not be
replaced. There is a secret to this kind of life. There must have been what he
did and how he conducted himself that caused him to be much loved and
appreciated by this centurion.
Here
are few suggestions on how to become dear and indispensable to your employers.
i. Become so efficient and effective in what you do to the point where they
begin to thank and appreciate you. This means beginning to work beyond your
salary.
ii. Intentionally do things that will help the organization or company grow and
become better. This can be done by bringing it all kinds of ideas and
suggestions. This again, is going way beyond your assigned duty.
iii. Work as though you were the owner of the company, and refuse to run down
the company. Report people who cheat and steal from the company with evidence;
even if it means requesting for your identity to be undisclosed.
iv. Be interested in your boss's personal welfare. Be a part of his family if
possible. Be a friend, provided you will not be compromised.
Receive more ‘work place wisdom’ in Jesus Name.
