The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has
given an assurance of enhanced welfare packages to Judiciary, Legislature and
Excecutive Arms of Government when there is an improvement in the state's
economy.
The Governor gave the assurance while presenting an
address during the Interdenomenational Church Service held at The Redeemed
Christian Church of God Dominion Mega Parish, Afaha Etok Ibesikpo off Udo Udoma
Avenue, Uyo to mark the opening of the 2017/2018 legal year by Akwa Ibom State
Judiciary.
The promise, according to the Governor, was based on
an earlier pronouncement at Abuja by the Minister of Budget and National
Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma that Nigeria was walking out of economic
recession.
Governor Emmanuel stressed on the importance of the
rule of law to the sustenance of democracy and reminded the Judiciary of it's
rule in that direction.
"I pray for the Judiciary because without the
rule of law, there cannot be democracy in Nigeria. It is the rule of law that
makes democracy what it is in Nigeria and so we can never do without the rule
of law and that is where the Judiciary has a magnificent role to play".
The Governor said.
He expressed appreciation to the Judiciary for seeking
God's guidance as they begin the legal year and thanked God for seeing them
through the last one successfully while praying for a hitch free 2017/2018
legal year.
He acknowledged with joy the cooperation and support
from the Judiciary and expressed his willingness to have a dinner and
interaction soon with judges in Akwa Ibom State.
In a remark, the State Chief Judge, Justice Godwin
Abraham expressed gratitude to the Governor, his Deputy, Mr Moses Ekpo and
other guests for attending the Interdenomenational Service.
Justice Abraham said the service was to thank God for
the past legal year and commit the new legal year into His hands stressing that
without God, one can do nothing.
In a sermon, Pastor Richard Adeboye who read from
Isaiah 45 verses 1 to 3, harped on the importance of God's presence in the life
of every man.
The pastor stated that the greatest need of mankind
was neither money nor position but the presence of God which guarantees
victory.
He charged the people to always provoke the presence
of God by developing generous attitude, habit of praise and righteousness.
