The stakeholders and
Indigenes of Etim Ekpo have warned Fmr Akwa Ibom Commissioner Enoidem to
desist henceforth from further assault, harassment and intimidation of
their son and Reps member Emmanuel Ekon.
Rising
from a meeting that was convened by Obong and Utit Annang Clans,
comprising clan heads, village heads, clergy, elders, women and youths
held at Iwukem Primary School to discuss the security situation facing
parts of Etim Ekpo, the stakeholders condemned in strongest terms, the
the physical assault meted out to their son by Emmanuel Enoidem.
The
statement said: we are highly worried over the killings and destruction
of properties in recent times in our locality which has claimed over 32
lives including that of the village head of Abak Obong, Chief Bassey
Ikpaisong and his brother Mr. Fred Ikpaisong and other well-placed
persons.
“That more
worrisome is the fact that the situation is yet to be brought under
control. About seven village heads, most of our elderly men and women
have fled their domain and have resorted to seek refuge in safer
grounds. Mostly affected are residents of Udianga Enem, Abak Obong
villages and it’s environ”.
Expressing
absolute confidence in the ability of the Government of Akwa Ibom State
ably led by His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and security agencies
to bring the situation under control and bring perpetrators to book, “we
condemn in strong terms an attempt by Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem in his
recent interview on Planet Radio to disparage the office of the
Inspector General of Police by referring to the investigation ordered by
the IG into the killings in Etim Ekpo as sponsored”. They wondered why
Enoidem whose village is not affected by the crises is disturbed by
Police investigation, the statement added.
Reacting
to the physical assault meted out to Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon by Bar.
Emmanuel Enoidem in an entertainment center in Uyo, on the 22nd of
September, 2017, they warned Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem to desist from
further treats, harassment, intimidation of our son in any form or
manner henceforth.
“Let us place on record that
arising from his treats, should anything happen to our son Rt. Hon.
Emmanuel Ekon, we will hold Bar. Emmanuel Enoidem responsible”.
“We
stand with the member representing Abak/EtimEkpo/Ika Federal
Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon who forwarded the petition written
by concerned village heads over the security situation in Etim Ekpo to
the office of the Inspector General of Police for investigation in line
with his core mandate”.
“We
appeal to the Government of Akwa Ibom State to assist the office to the
Inspector General of Police to carry out proper investigation so as to
bring the culprits to book and urge government to thoroughly check the
security background of person(s) before appointing them to positions of
authority or allow them to vie for political offices to avoid a
situation where cultists are made to be in positions of authority”.
We
declare our unalloyed support to the Federal Government of Nigeria and
the Government of Akwa Ibom State, the statement added
