Corinthians 13:3-7 NKJV
“And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body
to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and
is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things.”
We must thank God for the Bible, because without the
Bible we would have been thoroughly deceived on certain subjects of life, such
as love. Man has always believed that love is a feeling-based matter. We have
also believed that giving is the most authentic way to show love, but our text
for today, debunks all that. It is possible to give without loving, but it is
not possible to love without giving. So, it is not every giving exercise that
depicts love.
People have also believed that you must feel like it,
to love. Man has reduced love to affection and passion. It may interest you to
know that many people have died due to the passion that comes with what they
describe as love; it is referred to as crimes of passion. Such an instance is
when a boy kills his girlfriend and vice versa, over an affair, and the likes.
But love goes way beyond feelings. Feelings could make you fall in and out of
love just like that.
However, our text has given us great ideas as to what
love really is. Love is a verb for the most part. The first character of love
we see is the fact that it has patience and can suffer long. Love will wait for
you to be perfected. Isn't it amazing that the very first character of love we
saw there was patience or long suffering? Love is more than feelings. Love is a
decision; it is a choice we make based on what God has done in our lives.
We
simply duplicate in the life of others, God's acts of love in our lives.
Grace to love in Jesus Name.
