Mark 12:30-31 NKJV
“And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Yesterday we successfully established the fact that loving people will require that you first love yourself, and that loving yourself is only possible when you have had a love relationship with God. Today I want us to explore further on what it means to love God, because everything rises and falls on that. A man's relationship with God will play out and reflect in his relationship with everyone and everything else. When I hear of marital crisis with people, I do not bother myself to go too far, I simply cross check their relationship with God.
Man began to have problems with man only after he had lost relationship with God. The man and the woman were naked and not ashamed as long as their relationship with God remained intact. But soon as they disobeyed God, they began to cover themselves with fig leaves. Coverups and insincerity found its way into marriage, shortly after man fell out with God. This is true all the time, no matter who is involved and the nature of the relationship.
Here are a few ways we can show love for God:
How to Love God:
i. Have a relationship with Him: Man was made for relationship. God created you to be like Him so He could relate with you. Jesus came to re-establish our relationship with God by dying on the cross for our sins. His two hands were spread out wide; one hand held the hand of God and the other held the hand of man, reconciling both in Himself.
ii. Build fellowship with Him: This means communicating with Him daily, by prayer, and the reading/study of the word of God.
iii. Learn to Obey Him: Those who enjoy God the most are those who have learnt to obey Him, either by His word or by His spirit, and even through His servants; our spiritual leaders.
iv. Serve Him: Be at His service wherever and whenever the need arises.
Love God in Jesus Name.
Assignment
i. Thank the Lord for today's message.
ii. Ask the Lord for forgiveness for any way you may not have loved Him enough.
iii. Ask the Lord to fill your heart with His love today.
