Akwa
Ibom State Government has set up a technical Committee to ensure that gas
pipelines are not tampered with in the course of road construction.
The
Technical Committee was set up after a meeting between the management of the
Ministry of Works, representatives of Seven Energy Limited and representatives
of construction companies working in the state.
Some of the construction giants who sent their
representatives were: Julius Berger, Wizchino Engineering, VKS, CCECC, Virini,
BTS, Almadal, among others.
Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang, charged the committee to carry
out its assignments in line with the terms of reference and on time as the
Government of Akwa Ibom state is strict about standards concerning pipelines to
avoid accidents.
Meanwhile, the State Government is currently
constructing over 42 roads across the state and some road project areas have
gas pipelines crossing them.
The Technical Committee will be inaugurated Thursday,
