Matthew 17:19-20 NKJV
“Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Hallelujah!!! As I meditate on today's message, I realized that God doesn't need so much faith from us for things to change in our lives and around us. All we need is faith - as small as a mustard seed. I have attempted to view a mustard seed from a distance and I wasn't very successful at it. Someone once taught on faith and brought a physical mustard seed for illustration, and I could not see it from where I sat. I can't remember ever physically handling a mustard seed before in my life, but for Jesus to consider using it as the smallest thing He could find, it shows it must be really small.
I once asked myself, "how come Jesus recommended faith that small, why didn't He encourage us to have great and big faith as a prerequisite for certain victories? then I realized that faith is faith, no matter how small or insignificant in size. You don't need to feel like a powerful man or woman to put your faith to work, and you don't need to know all the scriptures in the world (though that is so important).
I have come to realize that it is not the amount of faith you have that is as important as the use of it. Many have great faith with very scarce and poor usage. But there are many with very little faith that have been put to great use. You should never wait until your faith is big enough, just use the little you have, because it grows with use.
However, the one-million-dollar question is "how do we get to use this small faith of ours"? The answer is in our text; "if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you will say...". Faith not verbalized, and faith not expressed, no matter how great it is in your heart, does not change anything. No matter how small the faith is in your heart, if you open your mouth to make great declarations with it, God will honour it and you will have great results. David was so small compared to Goliath. He had some measure of faith in his heart, but he spoke very greatly against Goliath by declaring and determining Goliath’s end even before the battle began.
As we can all attest to, everything David said came to pass. Put your faith to use today and watch mountains collapse, watch great problems go away, and even see your Goliaths bow before you in Jesus Name.
Assignment/Prayer
-Ask God for the grace to speak over and against all kinds of things in your life, regardless of how much faith you feel you have at the time.
-Make a list of things in your life you must use your faith for today, and begin the exercise immediately.
Nugget
Never wait until your faith is big enough, just use the little you have, because it grows with use.
