Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has promised to give continuous support to the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel in the area of Development in the State.
The Chairman of Finance and appropriation committee, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh declared the support to the Governor yesterday during the vetting of the State supplementary Budget sent to the House by the State Governor.
The Chairman who is also member representing Esit Eket stated this on behalf of the House. He described as a leader that is showing capacity in terms of accountability and development, adding that the Governor is in a hurry to transform the State in terms of good projects. Saying it is what the House under the leadership of Rt.Hon. Onofiok Luke want.
"...and knowing too well that His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel belief in due process and rule of law, He decided to ask the House of Assembly to approve supplementary budget.
"It is very important to note that if the dose not belief in accountability, He might no do what His Excellency has done. It is our belief that His Excellency believes in accountability and respect for due process and of course to three arms of government. He has. Decided to send supplementary list for approval.
"It is very important that we are very passionate about development of Akwa Ibom State. The House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke is very passionate about the development of the State and we also know that His Excellency is in a hurry to transform Akwa Ibom State in terms of good projects". He said.
It could be recalled that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly had on Tuesday received 2017 Supplementary appropriation bill of N 114 Billion from the executive. The bill titled, 'a law to make supplementary provision for the service of Akwa Ibom State for the year ending 31st December 2017, scaled second reading on the floor of the
House.
The Supplementary bill has a capital expenditure proposal of N111 Billion, while N3 Billion is budgeted for recurrent expenditure.
Speaker of the House, Onofiok Luke while referring the matter to the House Committee on Appropriation and Finance, headed by Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh for in depth study, gave it two days(Thursday) to report back to the House.
He tasked the Committee to interface with the Ministry of Finance to furnish it with capital receipts for the expenditure.
