The Transition Committee Chairman of Udung Uko Local Government Area, has made it clear that he has no interest whatsoever to contest in the forthcoming Local Government Election. Comrade Okponung publicly made this known to all at the PDP (Udung Uko Chapter) stakeholders meeting held today Sunday June 18, 2017 at the Local Government Guest House, Eyokponung.

The Chairman made this revelation to put to bed ongoing speculation that he (the chairman) wrote a letter to Obong Paul Ekpo (PDP State chairman) asking that the zoning arrangement which would have shifted the chairmanship seat to zone B (minority) be abolished.

His word, “this is to clear the air on the speculation that I am contesting in the forthcoming Local Government Election. I respect the zoning principle as enacted by those who preceded me, and will like to state it unequivocally clear that I will not be contesting”.

In order to show his willingness to stand by the status quo, the chairman called for a valid motion to be moved to reaffirm the zoning principle which Udung Uko LGA have operating on from its inception as a third tier of government. The reaffirmation motion was duly mosved and seconded by Hon. Prince Albertson Atanang and Dr. Etanguno Owowo respectively.

Responding to the chairman’s gesture, a leading chairmanship aspirant Engr. Etim (Ben) Edenseting thanked the chairman for his show of maturity and prowess in handling critical issues as affecting Udung Uko.

He pledged his continual loyalty to the party and support to the Local Government Area stating that himself, alongside his fellow aspirants will work hand in hand with the elders and stakeholders of the party to ensure a free, fair and credible election when the time comes.

He however stressed the need for the elders and stakeholders to meet in order to bring out a consensus candidate to fly the flag of the party during the election stating his readiness to support whoever the party deems fit for the race.

The well attended gathering had the likes of Engr. A. E Idung, Chief K. B. E Abia, Elder E. B Ekpo (Jimmy London), Honorable Prince Albertson Atanang, Chief Mrs Mercy Effiong, Pastor Clement Okon (BBC), Hon.
