The Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke, has commended Planet 101.1 FM for being up to date in highlighting the activities of the state legislature to the outside world.
He gave the commendation on monday in his office, while playing host to a team from the radio station led by the Head of the station, Mr. Imo Ebong and the Head of News, Otobong Billy.
Welcoming them to his office, Speaker Luke said "I want to first and foremost appreciate the effort of your medium in trying to highlight our little effort in the House of Assembly, covering our activities both a the plenary and committee level."
"I appreciate the partnership that exists between Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and your organization. Let me also appreciate your organisation for being a channel of communication between Akwa Ibom people and government".
He said the 6th Assembly was ready to partner the radio station and other media houses in the state in order to keep the public abreast of the activities of the legislature in line with the transparent legislative approach of the current Assembly.
"We promised to keep Akwa Ibom people transparently informed about our duties in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly . we accept the hand of fellowship you have extended to us.
We need to inform our people adequately, objectively about what we are doing. Planet FM being a capable platform, we would not shy away from having a rewarding partnership with you".
While expressing optimism that the partnership between the organization and the Assembly would bring mutually beneficial to both the legislature and the radio station, the Speaker charged management of the station to give government the platform to explain its programmes and policies to the masses.
Earlier, the Station Manager, Mr. Imoh Ebong, and said he and his team were in the Speaker's office to seek closer ties between the radio station and the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
He explained that it was the organization's hope that the collaboration sought would would be beneficial to the House and the Planet FM.
Mr. Ebong asserted that since it was not possible to detach politics from governance, he was of the opinion that if the relationship between the radio station and the Assembly was cemented, it would go a long way in enhancing effective coverage of the legislature.
Present during the courtesy call was the Deputy Leader of the House, and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Okon.
